green hillock known as Kunjaban for its scenic beauty stands to the north of Ujjayanta palace at a distance of about two kilometers. Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya had constructed this palace in 1917 AD. This palace was used as a palace for retreat. The Maharaja himself had planned the building. Rabindranath Tagore had stayed on this palace when he came to Tripura for the last time in 1926 AD.
His favourite place of the building was the Golvaranda. From here he used to enjoy the green view of Baramura hill ranges to the eastern horizon about 40km away from the palace. This palace is also called Pushpabant Palace.The poet had composed five songs at this palace in the spring season of 1926 AD.
At present the Governor of Tripura lives at this palace. Now it is called Raj Bhavan. This palace is the official residence of Governor of Tripura. This palace is also called Governor’s House.
