Industrial Prospect of Tripura
conomic development of a country or a state depends on its industrial development. This is a well established fact. The state of Tripura is industrially backwards and main reasons for its backwardness are geographical isolation as well as connectivity with the mainland of India. Gearing up industrial activities with the help of available natural resources as well as removal of infrastructure bottlenecks are the thrust area for economic development of the state. Creation of an integrated and comprehensive base for industrialization through proper linkage between medium, large and small scale industries is the focused area of the Government.
Efforts are being made to promote entrepreneurship development within the state. The outside investors are being encouraged both for their financial capabilities and technical expertise, for setting up medium and large scale manufacturing units. The state government also laid out importance for development of the industrial infrastructure by way of augmentation of power, water, supply, development of industrial areas with all common facilities etc.
Although the state is backward in industrialization but has the potentiality for industrial opportunities and improvement which in turn will increase employment generation in the state. Tripura has a very bright future in following industries.
I. Natural gas based Industries.
II. Food processing Industries.
III. Tea processing Industries.
IV. Rubber based Industries.
V. Software Industries.
VI. Handloom, handicrafts and Sericulture.
VII. Village and Small scale Industries.
It is to be mentioned here that despite so many constraints the state has made tremendous progress in this direction.
The largest gas based power plant of ONGC has been developed in Tripura with collaboration with the state Government. The state is on verge to become the first power surplus state in the country. This is power surplus condition will open avenue for different heavy and medium industries. It can be said with certainty that the state is going to play a lead role in industrialization of our country.
