Durga Puja passes off peacefully in Tripura amidst arrest of police security officer
Agartala,12 October,2016:The Bengali's grand festival being celebrated also Muslims and other tribes here in the state along with others Durga Puja festival passed off amidst complaint against cops. However, the festival ended here on Tuesday with the devotees bidding audie to the Goddess Durga with the immersion ceremony took place on Dashamighat as usual.On a two seperate incident one Police sucurity officer was arrested for allegedly molesting a minor girl at the outskirt of Agartala.The incident took place while the victim tribal girl was pandal-hopping during the Durga Puja festival along with her friend, police said.The victim later lodged a complaint of molestation against Deputy Commandant of TSR (Tripura State Rifles) Bishnu Debnath at Chailengta in Dhalai district (in northern Tripura) on Sunday night. Debnath is the adjutant of the 8th Battalion of the elite force that specialises in counter-insurgency operations.Besides, in another incident people of the capital town raised a serious complaint against a TSR cop for charging lathi on the devotees and worker of Municipal Corporation at Agartala Dashamighat on Tuesday evening during the immersion ceremony.The devottees at Dashamighat also claimed that the unknown TSR cop with lathi in hand also dare to put hands on a lady there and later forced a woman constanble to tackle the lady.However, the incident has triggered a serious question over the role of police as a bad security system in the entire capital town has hit the festival this time.The festival this year also left at least 5 seriously injured after a car managed to dash them at Agartala Lalbahadur Chowmuhni area on Saptami night amidst a securiry deployment. They were all later sent to GBP hospital. Though, the police arrested the drunken driver but the negligence role of the police has yet again.come up highlighted.According to the police authority elaborate security arrangements by the city police as well as the civic authorities were in place on various ghats to ensure that the immersion passed off peacefully.This year, the Agartala Municipal Corporation has made special arrangement for the immersion by deploying its volunteers for the purpose to reduce the risk of accidents and water pollution of the river.
