Anti Leprosy Day observed in Gomati District

Nutanbazar,30January,2017:Gomati District Level Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign has been launched on 30th January which is marked as Anti Leprosy Day. As a part of this campaign, the Anti Leprosy Day is observed today in an occasion held at Nutanbazar Community Hall. The District Level programme, jointly organised by Nutanbazar RH & Tirthamukh PHC, was inaugurated by Parimal Debnath, Member of Tripura Legislative Assembly in presence of Priyamani Debbarma, Chief Guest of the Programme. On this occasion, both guests have rememorized the selfless efforts, care and nursing of Mahatma Gandhi for the people by the infectious disease which is the oldest recorded chronic affecting the nervous system. It is important to mention here that Anti Leprosy Day is also the martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi who was visioning for leprosy free India. On this occasion, blankets have been given to all fourteen leprosy patients.They also asked all stakeholders to be more responsive and create awareness to prevent the disease before praising health departmental tremendous efforts for recent survey conducted in different pockets at Tirthamukh areas for finding out of leprosy patients, if any and give free treatment. Gomati District has already taken up survey and found numbers of leprosy patients at some pockets under at Tirthamukh area and found out 14 patients infected with the disease who are being given Multi Drug Therapy Treatment. As leprosy patients have been found out in surrounding areas, District Level awareness programme is launched today at Natunbazar instead of Udaipur to give impetus on prevention of this disease which shall have to be prevented by concerted efforts.Dr. Manas Bhattacharjee, State Programme Officer of National Leprosy Eradication Programme of Tripura has         also focused on removing the stigma associated with this disease. All the patients are being treated with Multi Drug Therapy. The free treatment is available through National Leprosy Eradication Programme. Elaborating the disease, he said, anyone can be affected with this disease, so the day is celebrated to make aware the people about the scientific reasons of leprosy as well as its medical cures.The thrust of the programme is to programme community participation in diagnosis and treatment of leprosy in its early stages. The day is celebrated to understand the real need to fight against leprosy. Dr. Niru Mohan Jamatia, Chief Medical Officer of Gomati District has called for availing free treatments of the disease from government hospitals. He added that more survey will be done at Bhomrachara ADC Village where leprosy patients found immediately.Now District is emphasising on sensitizing local community to not stigmatize and discriminate against those who are affected with this disease which is communicable but absolutely curable. During the programme, a drama played by ASHA of Nutanbazar RH and short video film have been displayed depicting on leprosy disease, diagnosis and treatment of leprosy along with supplemented by the issues of superstition and rumours related with the diseases. Later on slide PowerPoint presentation was displayed for better understanding of the disease. Spot quiz competition was also held after sensitization of the programme. Villagers, students, workers have participated in the spot quiz competitions. Dr. Milanbhakta Jamatia, MOIC of Natunbazar RH gave inaugural speech, Dr. Subhendhu Debbarma, SDMO of Amarpur, Debjan Chakma retired Sub Divisional Police Officer, all village committee chairpersons of Natunbazar RH & Tirthamukuh PHC Areas’ ADC Village, social workers Snehasis Banik, Nepal Debnath, Balai Datta were also present in the programme
