Agartala, 5th August, 2014: A Tripura Police officer displayed his creativity at an exhibition of sculptures created by him using abandoned bamboos and dry roots. The exhibition titled as Roots was started on 3rd   August, 2014 and continued up to 5th August, 2014. Dilip Ray, a commandant of the 10th battalion of the elite Tripura State Rifles (TSR), on Sunday presented the results of a hobby he has cultivated for the last thirty years. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated the three-day event in which Ray’s sculptures, based on the theme of human civilization, as well as handmade household furniture were displayed. Alongside his tiring job, Ray has silently pursued his passion for sculpture, building up an impressive collection of handmade items. He claimed unearthed bamboo roots or the stump of a fallen tree can tell their own stories and helped him create the art he is now exhibiting. In this exhibition more than 30 art objects- mostly root sculptures and wood creations would be displayed along with some of his paintings. Some of the displayed items carry the titles like ‘Ecstasy’, Dancing Couple, ‘The Life”, ‘Intensity’, ‘Vampire’, The Visitor, ‘Playmate’, ‘Awaiting’, ‘Alien’ etc.
